CIVILLY DEFENSIBLE SELF-DEFENSE FOR CIVILIANS – ADAPTED FROM NC DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS TRAINING

Course Description:

This comprehensive self-defense course is designed to equip civilians with practical, legally defensible defensive tactics derived from the proven techniques taught to North Carolina Department of Corrections officers. The training focuses on de-escalation, control, and survival strategies that emphasize measured responses to threats, ensuring participants can protect themselves while minimizing the risk of excessive force claims in court.

Participants will learn situational awareness, verbal de-escalation techniques, and defensive maneuvers that align with best civilian self-defense practices. The course also includes instruction on stand-up defenses, ground survival, pressure points, and weapon disarmament techniques, prioritizing escape and control rather than aggression.

Why This Training is Civilly Defensible?

Unlike traditional martial arts or combat-focused self-defense programs, this course is structured around techniques vetted for legal scrutiny within the correctional system, where the use of force is heavily regulated. The curriculum is built on principles that meet the legal standards for “reasonable force” and “proportional response,” making it highly defensible in court.

  • Emphasis on De-escalation: Students are trained to use force only when necessary and in proportion to the threat.

  • Non-lethal Control Techniques: Methods focus on disengagement, escape, and control rather than excessive striking or aggression.

  • Real-World Scenarios & Legal Considerations: Instruction includes case studies of civilian self-defense cases and how excessive force claims arise, ensuring students understand the legal framework that governs self-defense in North Carolina.

  • Avoiding Criminal & Civil Liability: Techniques are based on defensive responses proven in legal settings to mitigate potential lawsuits or criminal charges resulting from self-defense incidents.

This course is ideal for anyone who wants to develop practical self-protection skills while ensuring their actions remain within legally justified use-of-force guidelines. Whether you are a professional, student, or simply looking for a responsible approach to personal safety, this training will provide you with the tools to defend yourself while standing on firm legal ground.

Personal Security Training accepts a maximum of 12 students per class. The class lasts 8 hours, and all students must bring a note from their Doctor stating they are cleared for training.
